Like many of the other public spaces in Alliston, Ontario, where I have shown my work, Once again there is a common theme of human connection, socializing, the sense of community and coming together. This is because the location of the exhibit strongly impacts what is selected to be shown in that particular space. This time around, I am exhibiting photographs at the Coffee Culture Eatery & Café in Alliston, Ontario in the Alliston Mills Shopping Centre. The local coffee shop, for many communities including Alliston, is a gathering space for people to meet up, socialize, and connect.

The South Simcoe Arts Council's (SSAC) Art in Our Community Program presents an exhibition of work by Sarah Hawley from June 4th – September 3rd, 2025 at the Coffee Culture in Alliston, Ontario. This body of work will be on display inside the coffee shop. The exhibition consists of a small collection of photographs that complement the space including the architectural element present inside the shop, as well as the purpose of the space – the fact that it is a café. It is a coffee shop where people come together and the images shown in this environment will reflect that. These photographs are a mix of imagery that includes black and white photos of elements found in a café, alongside colourful abstracts that enhance the vibe or spirit of this space, and hold a complementary colour palette. Some images are in focus while others are out of focus, some are in colour while others are not, and yet they all work well together in this setting.

This exhibition was made possible through a program offered by the South Simcoe Arts Council (SSAC) known as Arts in Our Community (AiOC). AiOC is a program that partners with local businesses and showcases artwork by local artists. The program is free for SSAC members to participate and the SSAC takes care of any artwork sales and inquiries. They also post artwork images from the exhibition on their website to increase exposure. To learn more, please visit: https://southsimcoeartscouncil.com/exhibits/aioc-details

I would like to thank and acknowledge the South Simcoe Arts Council and those directly involved with the Arts in our Community program. I appreciate all the hard work of those involved, who make this program possible. A special thank you to the Coffee Culture in Alliston for participating in the AiOC program by allowing the SSAC to use their wall space to showcase the work of local artists. It’s a pleasure to work with you.
