Inside & Out
SSAC: Art in Our Community Exhibition

The South Simcoe Arts Council's (SSAC) Art in Our Community Program presents an exhibition of work by Sarah Hawley from October 24th, 2023 - January 24th, 2024 at the Adjala Tosorontio Municipal Centre in Alliston. This body of work will be on display in the main foyer. The exhibition consists of a collection of photographs that are curated in response to the disconnect that exists between the office environment inside the building and the wide open countryside surrounding the outside of the municipal centre. The artist was struck by the jarring feeling generated by the two very different spaces inside and out. As a result, many of the photographs selected are shown as a pair, where one image relates to the office setting and the other is of the natural world. What is equally odd about this place is that the municipal centre is the site of this art exhibition, which is also out of place.

The Municipal Centre is located at 7855 30th Sideroad Adjala in Alliston, Ontario, L9R 1V1. The Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Left Behind: Forgotten Objects of the Past

Left Behind: Forgotten Objects of the Past is an exhibition featuring a collection of photographs by Sarah Hawley. The exhibition is in the upstairs loft at the Museum on the Boyne, in Alliston and will be on view for three months, opening on the 27th of June until the end of September 2023. This exhibition has been made possible in collaboration with the Museum on the Boyne, the South Simcoe Arts Council (SSAC) and the SSAC program - Arts in Our Community (AiOC).

This show is a site specific exhibition meant to reinforce the importance of small town historical establishments like the Museum on the Boyne that work to keep important stories from it's rich history alive. This space has influenced the image selection and intent of the exhibition. Left Behind: Forgotten Objects of the Past is meant to simulate stumbling across antiques in the attic that were once cherished that now sits collecting dust. Generating a sense of discovery or re-discovery, and producing a nostalgic experience for some and a educational opportunity for others is the main intent. Up in the loft, Sarah's exhibit will be accompanied by another photographer's exhibit along with other images and artifacts from the museum that are on permanent display in that space.

PLEASE NOTE: that these exhibitions on display are in the upstairs loft area of the museum's main building with limited access via a narrow staircase only (no elevator or other alternate access is available). For more information about the museum please visit: https://www.newtecumseth.ca/en/parks-recreation-and-culture/museum-on-the-boyne.aspx

Location Address: 250 Fletcher Crescent, Alliston, Ontario, Canada, L9R 1M1

SPARK Photo Festival Virtual Exhibition 2022
This year, SPARK Photo Festival had a record number of photographers and images entered and the judges had a very difficult task to narrow it down to just twenty-five for the print exhibit.
Due to the impressive number of entries (over 250 images!) organizers were pleased to share a Virtual Exhibit of “Judges’ Selects” with a gallery of images the judges determined also deserve recognition.
