Muswell Hill

When traveling, wandering aimlessly is often a great way to stumble onto great discoveries or hidden gems. This is often how I explore new places, as long as I know the area is safe to do so. Over planning where to go and what to see on a trip, can lead to disappointment and often not enough time to see and do it all. I have mentioned on this blog before that I used to live in London, England, so I know it fairly well. But in 2023 when I was there on holiday, I was interested in seeing parts of London that I wasn’t familiar with. Muswell Hill is a suburban district of the London Borough of Haringey in north London. The development of this area occurred shortly after the opening of Alexandra Palace in 1873, a massive pleasure pavilion built on the far eastern part of north London's gravel hills.
I had read about Muswell Hill and the residential streets that have a wonderful view of the city. As a photographer, this was the main draw to go there and I thought I would explore the rest of the area to see what this part of London has to offer. It was quite a journey to get to the far north end of London.
As I said, the journey there was a bit of a trek on the tube, at least it was from where I was staying. I arrived early in the morning and wandered down the main road. It was quiet and people on the street were setting up to start the day, putting out tables and chairs at restaurants, opening up shop fronts, putting out signs, and sweeping the sidewalk in front of their shops.
The photos I took there on that day are a photo documentation of my wandering about in northern London. From the pigeons on the main road, to the old cinema, the famous street in Muswell Hill with a killer view of London, Alexandra Park, street art in the park, the hill top with the beautiful view of the city at Alexandra Palace (AKA the Ally Pally), and the beautiful architecture that is Alexandra Palace. It was a lovely day to wander even though it was under an overcast sky with on and off rain.
