The Evolution of Film Photography
Updated: Apr 10, 2021
I have been working on a project in Photoshop building a mandala design out of a collection of images of different film cameras from my personal collection. The cameras were made and used during different time periods that span the evolution of film photography (which is where the title for this image came from). This project involved a lot of organization and planning. I used so many different layers in Photoshop that I had lost count. It was a big undertaking but it was interesting to me to take some of the parameters from my art practice in other mediums and apply it to this digital art project. For example, I focused on building patterns and on the use of line and repetition. I used these elements in a similar way that I would have used them in other mediums. It was an interesting way of working and I think I would like to explore this further.
Below is a looped video the illustrates some of the behind the scenes work that went into building this image.
